Every time I download a file or save something on Desktop, I promise myself that it will be soon moved to it’s actual location. But in reality I never get a chance to move that file and result a “Cluttered Desktop”. It just take 2-3 days to clutter my desktop after I install a new Operating System. But If you are an ex-window user like me, I am sure you must be missing “Show/hide desktop icons” feature in the windows. Since this feature lets you hide all the icons, files from the desktop which makes it look neat.
However, this option is not there by default in the MAC OSX. But there is always a way out and for this it’s very simple. Let us see how it is done.
To hide desktop icons with a Keyboard shortcut, all you need to do is to download the freely available Camouflage application for MAC. This application is as small as 473KB which gets installed in your MAC and now with it’s help you can hide your desktop icons with a single Keyboard shortcut.
After you install this application you will see the following –
Now all you are going to choose is a HotKey with lets you show/hide desktop icons. I chose ⌘+- combination. That’s it !
If you want this application to launch every time you login into your MAC, just check the item which says “Launch at login”. Also this application comes with a bonus called “Custom Folder”. This lets you map a folder of your choice to the desktop, such that whenever you click the desktop it will open that very folder. In the above screenshot you will see that I have mapped the “Applications” folder when I click on the Desktop or Wallpaper.
