Heya Folks,
Undoubtedly, Facebook is world’s most famous social network today. You must be having an account there and might have posted say around 100 images or so. At the time of posting images usually we do not read the privacy terms which Facebook or any other site has. But this becomes serious when your privacy goes out of bounds. A very similar sort of problem is reported by some of my friends in facebook in which they claim that the images they uploaded are being shown in the advertisements within their facebook network.
At first anyone would say how can that be possible when I never allowed facebook to do so. But you must remember that every site has its own Terms and Conditions and privacy settings which by default is tuned in according to their benefit. So by default Facebook is allowed to use your images to create advertisements on your friend’s profiles. Facebook says :
Facebook occasionally pairs advertisements with relevant social actions from a user’s friends to create Facebook Ads. Facebook Ads make advertisements more interesting and more tailored to you and your friends. These respect all privacy rules. You may opt out of appearing in your friends’ Facebook Ads below.
So they are going to use your images to make interesting Ads for your friends. The idea is bright but some of you might not agree with it, right ? So how to get rid of this ? No no, deleting your facebook account is not the solution. You can also turn this off in your account’s privacy settings. Let me list the steps to do so :
You can go directly using this Direct URL but it might only work if you are already logged in. Otherwise follow the steps listed below.
- Login into your facebook account, and click on accounts settings.
- Scroll down and click on Manage opposite to Privacy to change the privacy settings.
- On the next page click on News Feed and Wall.
- Now on the above tabs click on the Facebook Ads and then from the Drop down select No One and click Save Changes.
I changed my privacy settings, before my engagement pictures appears in some wedding advertisement. So protect your pictures my changing the settings as explained above. Hope that helps you to protect your privacy.
