When the facebook gave away the vanity usernames of the format http://facebook.com/username some guys got it of the format http://facebook.com/user.name and then later realized that the same user can also be accessed with the URL http://facebook.com/username. Some claim it as a major bug in the facebook’s script but let me tell you its not a bug and it was intentionally provided feature.
This feature was actually followed my gmail’s Yes this you, feature for which i wrote the blog entry some time back in my another blog. So now for example , my facebook’s url is http://facebook.com/sachin.khosla but it can be accessed with the following URLs as well.
- http://facebook.com/sachinkhosla
- http://facebook.com/s.a.c.h.i.n.k.h.o.s.l.a
- http://facebook.com/sach.in.kh.os.la
So it actually redirects you to the main profile’s url http://www.facebook.com/sachinkhosla
So hope you wont assume it to be a bug anymore 🙂
