Noticed something different on your twitter profile’s homepage? Oh I am not talking about any ads incorporated by twitter for the revenue generation but it’s about your follower count. Twitter is fixing your follower count by cleaning up its data source. They are nuking bots from your follower’s list to give you a clean and fair follower count. This count is generally noticed in accounts that have large number of followers.
This is the first major step by twitter to actually fight against bots and doing something major in their backend. Twitter has to say :
However, a consequence of this change is that follower counts will drop for some people. In particular, those with large followings may see significant changes as we correct for spam accounts and data inconsistencies. No legitimate followings should be affected—we’re just cleaning up artifacts in the system.
